What a security deposit covers, what fair wear and tear means, and how to leave on good terms.
A security deposit is money held against damage beyond normal use, not a fee you are expected to lose. The goal on move-out is simple. Return the home close to how you received it, and the deposit comes back.
Fair wear and tear is the wear a home picks up from ordinary living. Light scuffs and faded paint sit on the owner. A cracked door, a burn on the counter or a missing fixture sits on the resident.
The single best habit is to document the home on day one. Photos of every room, including any existing marks, settle most questions before they start.
Habanto does not hold your deposit. It stays with the property owner or agent as it does today, and what you can keep here is the record of what was agreed.
Before you hand back the keys, give the place a proper clean, fix the small things you caused, and take a fresh set of photos. A tidy handover is the quietest way to a full refund.
