Ejari is the system that registers a tenancy contract with the Dubai Land Department. In simple terms, it is the official record that you and your landlord agreed on a specific home, for a specific rent, over a specific period.

It matters because a registered tenancy is what most other services ask to see. Setting up DEWA, getting a residence visa tied to your home, enrolling children in school, and resolving any dispute later all lean on a valid Ejari.

The contract names the parties, the property, the annual rent, the payment terms, and the start and end dates. Once it is registered you receive a certificate with a number. Keep that number somewhere safe, because you will be asked for it more than once.
